This is an exquisite example of late 1950s Swiss horology - a Verneta chronograph powered by the legendary in-house Venus 170 caliber.
The standout feature of this model is its rare and highly collectible vertical sub-dial configuration ("vertical eyes"). With the minute recorder at the 12 o'clock position and the small seconds at 6, it immediately signals the prestigious architecture of the movement within. The warm gold-plated case harmoniously frames the light dial, which remains in noble, authentic condition. Distinct Arabic numerals with a soft patina, vintage hands, and a contrasting red chronograph hand create an unmistakable retro aesthetic.
The watch’s functionality is enhanced by complex, multi-colored scales - a blue tachymeter for measuring speed and a red telemeter for calculating distance - adding a professional instrumental feel to this elegant accessory. The robust 17-jewel Venus 170 movement (Ancre 17 Rubis) has stood the test of time, and the classic brown stitched leather strap perfectly completes the look, making this timepiece a coveted trophy for any collection.

BRAND HISTORY
BRAND HISTORY
The history of the Verneta brand illustrates the evolution of classic Swiss manufacturing - growing from a local workshop into part of an influential watchmaking group.
Founded in the early 20th century in the town of Porrentruy by Girardin & Wetterwald, the brand initially specialized in high-precision pocket watch movements, registering its first landmark models around 1908. A defining moment arrived in 1933, when the rights to the brand were acquired by the Armand Nicolet manufacture. This move shifted production to Tramelan - one of Switzerland's key industrial hubs - where Verneta began production alongside the well-known Telda line, adopting advanced metalworking technologies.
In 1939, following the company's reorganization as "Les Fils d’Armand Nicolet" (The Sons of Armand Nicolet) under Willy Nicolet’s leadership, the brand significantly expanded its technical capabilities. The 1940s and 1950s marked the final establishment of its signature style, as engineers focused on producing complex chronographs and robust wristwatches based on time-tested calibers. This dedication earned Verneta its reputation for producing precise and durable instruments.
